Ionizing feedback from an O star formed in a filament

چکیده

We explore a simple semi-analytic model for what happens when an O star (or cluster of stars) forms in isolated filamentary cloud. The is characterised by three configuration parameters: the radius filament, R_FIL, mean density H_2 n_FIL, and rate at which emits ionising photons, Ndot_LyC. show that wide range these parameters, radiation from rapidly erodes ionised gas filament disperses into surroundings. Under circumstances distance to ionisation front (IF) given approximately L ~ 5.2 pc [R_FIL/0.2pc]^-1/6 [n_FIL/10^4cm^-3]^-1/3 [Ndot_LyC/10^49s^-1]^1/6 [t/Myr]^2/3, we derive similar power-law expressions other quantities, example boils off mass shock-compressed layer (SCL) swept up behind IF. very small fraction expended locally, rather amount molecular dispersed. discuss some features more realistic models, extent they might modify or invalidate predictions this idealised model. In particular that, large R_FIL and/or n_FIL low Ndot_LyC, continuing accretion onto trap star, slowing erosion even further.

Dwarf Galaxies with Ionizing Radiation Feedback. Ii: Spatially-resolved Star Formation Relation

We investigate the spatially-resolved star formation relation using a galactic disk formed in a comprehensive high-resolution (3.8 pc) simulation. Our new implementation of stellar feedback includes ionizing radiation as well as supernova explosions, and we handle ionizing radiation by solving the radiative transfer equation rather than by a subgrid model. Photoheating by stellar radiation stab...

An unbound hyper - velocity subluminous O star

We report the discovery of an unbound hyper-velocity star, US 708, in the Milky Way halo, with a heliocentric radial velocity of +708±15 km s −1. A quantitative NLTE model atmosphere analysis of optical spectra obtained with LRIS at the Keck I telescope shows that US 708 is an extremely helium-rich (N He /N H =10) subluminous O type star with T eff = 44 500 K, log g = 5.23 at a distance of 19 k...

An instability of feedback-regulated star formation in galactic nuclei

We examine the stability of feedback-regulated star formation (SF) in galactic nuclei and contrast it to SF in extended discs. In galactic nuclei, the orbital time becomes shorter than the time over which feedback from young stars evolves. We argue analytically that traditional feedback-regulated SF equilibrium models break down in the regime. We study this using numerical simulations with the ...

Massive star feedback – from the first stars to the present

The amount of mass loss is of fundamental importance to the lives and deaths of very massive stars, their input of chemical elements and momentum into the interstellar and intergalactic media, as well as their emitted ionizing radiation. I review mass-loss predictions for hot massive stars as a function of metal content for groups of OB stars, Luminous Blue Variables, and Wolf-Rayet stars. Alth...
